Magical sparkling black sand in different shades
With a very relaxing atmosphere, Piha Beach is a volcanic black-sand shoreline located in Auckland in New Zealand. One of the most popular in the area, Piha beach is the destination for Aucklanders specially in summer.
Piha has a huge rock right in the center, named Lion Rock because of the shape of the natural formation that attracts many people to visit the area. Dividing North and South Piha beaches, Lion Rock became one of New Zealand’s iconic, printed in stamps and postcards. At first it might look an intimidating climb but accordingly to visitors anyone with a basic fitness level should be able to do it it, and enjoy the incredible view from up there. Just make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes. 🙂
An ideal get away from the busy city but yet close to the Auckland CBD, only one hour drive. Piha has stunning scenery, including surrounding mountains and great surf conditions. Watch out for the water current, tt can be harsh.Swim only when the beach is patrolled and between the flags. The beach also has a good camper van site and excellent facilities for stay.Public toilets and change rooms are also available in this area.
